Therapy sessions usually take place on a weekly basis for up to 50 minutes to help you achieve your aims in a short-term and goal focused manner. In order to ensure that you are making progress and applying what you learn in the therapy sessions, you will usually be given some work to do between sessions. Therapy reviews are conducted every 4-6 weeks to assess your progress and ensure that you are on track to meeting your goals.
The therapy sessions will help you develop the tools you need to help you GROW:
GROW in self-awareness of the things that affect your wellbeing
GROW in your ability to ask for help and say what you need
GROW your toolkit to tackle your challenges
GROW in self-confidence to overcome your fears
GROW in self-kindness and compassion and
GROW in your relationships
Working directly with or in partnership with parents can be highly effective in bringing about change in a child. At times, this approach can be more impactful than meeting with a child individually. Depending on the situation, work with parents can be done alongside an individual intervention with a child or young person. Together, we will determine the right treatment path for your child that works best for you and your family.
I understand that parents often have many responsibilities, such as work and caring for others, that can make it difficult to attend sessions. To accommodate these challenges, I offer parent sessions in a flexible way, such as online or by adjusting the timing, length, and frequency of meetings.
Working with parents/carers and families can take many shapes and forms. At times we may meet as a whole family depending on who you feel is key to support the change from within the family. This could be siblings, parents, carers, grandparents, aunts and uncles, a nanny, friends and/or those important to you in your community.
The stronger the relationship between the therapy/therapist and the child or young person's key system the more likely it is that we can bring about change.
